Desktop Virtualisation

Desktop Virtualization is the technology used to centralize the desktop infrastructure by taking the actual desktop hardware away from the end-user and running it as a Virtual Machine on a virtualized infrastructure.

The virtualized desktop runs as if it were running on its own, dedicated hardware, and offers the familiar client Operating System (Windows XP, Vista, ...) to the end-users. The end-users can access their desktops by using a remote access protocol, such as RDP or ICA, from any kind of device (Thin Client, laptop, desktop, ...). A Connection Broker manages the assignement of Virtual Desktops to end-users, allowing for secure connectivity over any kind of internet connection and offering either user dedicated desktops or a pool of similar desktops.
